2019 State of the City Address (March 25, 2019)

Council President Hayes, members of the Kokomo Common Council, elected officials, distinguished guests and citizens of Kokomo, welcome. I would especially like to welcome my wife Kelli, and my family and friends who took the time to be here this evening.

I also want to acknowledge our city council. Everything our city has accomplished would not have been possible without them. As I have said before, they truly are the best city council in the state of Indiana.

Mayor Greg Goodnight will be part of a small panel at Aurora University’s Community Town Square Event on Tuesday, March 19 in Aurora, Ill. The discussion panel is entitled “Rust Belt Revival, The Midwest and the Global Economy.”  The focus of the event is help educate Aurora University students and the greater West suburban Chicago region on the issue of the future of the Midwest in the global economy. The Kokomo Senior Center, 721 W. Superior St., will be open beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 and will remain open (24 hours per day) until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31  as a warming center. The center will be fully-staffed during that time. Read More

The request for single-family housing building permits reached a level in 2018 that hadn’t been matched since 2003. In all, 114 permits were issued last year, the most since 151 were handed out in 2003.

“Residential construction continues to be a good indicator of economic growth,” said Mayor Greg Goodnight. “The increase in permit requests reflects the fact that Kokomo is a great place to live, work and raise a family. Families are choosing Kokomo.”
