Kokomo Parks & Recreation

The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department offers the City of Kokomo, friends, and neighbors, an exciting and diverse Park system.  Individuals of all ages may participate in a wide range of activities and take advantage of over 450 acres of city parks and facilities.  Recreational programs have expanded on a yearly basis and are offered for all age groups year round.

Mayor Goodnight’s administration has focused heavily on its Parks and Recreation Department. In recent years, the City has extended the Wildcat Creek Walk of Excellence as well as the Industrial Heritage Trail through the downtown area; transformed Foster Park into a popular downtown community performing arts center; added new playgrounds and recreational facilities to several City parks, including a new playground funded by the Chrysler Foundation, McGonigal Jeep and Button Chrysler Dodge and the Community Foundation; added energy-efficient lighting to Foster Park and the Walk of Excellence, funded through Efficiency and Environmental Conservation Block Grant funds at no cost to local taxpayers; added two dog parks, on the east and west side of town; and dramatically expanded new programming activities including the Easter Egg Hunts for children and adults and the Pint-Size Chef program.

We invite the community to visit, participate, and enjoy any park or facility of their choosing.  Whether you wish to throw a softball around the infield, visit with relatives under the large mature shade trees offered throughout the parks, or take the plunge at the Kokomo Beach Family Aquatic Center, we welcome you.

The Parks Department also maintains several local historical facilities and displays.  Come and visit the Vermont Covered Bridge, read and visit about "Old Ben" at our Visitors Center, or tour the Elwood Haynes Museum, all at no cost.

The staff of the Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department will be glad to provide any additional information on programs, facilities, activities, special events and available Park Department rental facilities.  You may contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (765) 456-PARK or stop by our offices located in Highland Park.
