Kokomo Leads Area in Population Gain
Fourth Consecutive Year of Growth
According to recently released U.S. Census data, the City of Kokomo has gained population for the past four years.
For the period between 2010 and 2014, Kokomo led Howard and the adjacent counties in population growth with 230 news residents. The latest estimates place Kokomo’s population at 57,085.
“Our growth rate is no accident,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “The city planned for its future by downsizing government and making wise investments in infrastructure and quality-of-life projects designed to attract new residents and business developments.”
New housing developments opening in the City of Kokomo are positive indicators of the City’s growth.
The Lofts at Union Street, a 35-unit apartment community will open in the center of downtown Kokomo later this summer. This upscale, urban apartment community is located on the fifth floor of a newly built parking garage, which is just a few blocks from the new Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
Construction will start in the fall of 2015 on the Apperson Way Apartments, a $9.5 million, 69-unit apartment complex in Kokomo’s Near Eastside Neighborhood.
New residents led the demand for housing in 2014 when 109 new homes were built, representing an increase over 2013.
