The Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) announced the selection of Beyond Borders Language Center of Kokomo to its Economic Development Growth through Entrepreneurship (EDGE) winners for 2014.
Beyond Borders Language Center was chosen as one of ten EDGE Award winners throughout the state in the Emerging Business category. ISBDC Business Advisor, Monty Henderson, worked with Beyond Borders’ owner DeAndra Beard to create a business plan, develop financial projections and establish a marketing strategy for the school.
DeAndra credited the consulting and advisement from Monty and the ISBDC’s workshops and seminars for helping to grow her business.
“The ISBDC advised me on making solid financial plans and introduced me to key resources for efficiently managing my small business,” DeAndra Beard said. “First and foremost I am a language instructor who enjoys helping others achieve their goal for learning a second language, and now I have the skills to turn my passion into a successful business.”
“Adults and children who speak more than one language will have better opportunities in a world that is increasingly internationally-connected,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight.
“The EDGE award is recognition of DeAndra’s determination to establish a high-quality language school.”
DeAndra will receive the honor at a reception ceremony on June 19 at the Dallara IndyCar Factory in Speedway, Indiana.
Beyond Borders Language Learning Center currently offers personalized and creative Spanish and English instruction through small group courses and one-to-one tutorial sessions for adults and children. In the future, Beyond Borders will offer additional languages, such as German, American Sign Language, Mandarin Chinese and Portuguese. The center is located in downtown Kokomo at 108 N. Main St. Suite B.
