Kokomo-native and Houston Astros pitcher Joe Thatcher will return to throw out the first pitch at the Kokomo Jackrabbits home game against the Hannibal Cavemen on Tuesday, July 14.
After the ceremonial first pitch, Joe will remain at the stadium to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.
Joe Thatcher played baseball at Kokomo High School and pitched for four seasons at Indiana State University. He was undrafted out of college yet undeterred in his pursuit of a professional baseball career.
Joe’s passion for baseball led him to start his career with the River City Rascals, an independent league team in Missouri similar to the Kokomo Jackrabbits. After two seasons with River City, he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers and started a ten-year Major League Baseball career. Joe is currently a relief pitcher for the Houston Astros.
The Kokomo Jackrabbits are an expansion team playing in the Prospect League. The first-year team owns a 15-14 record. Kokomo has tallied the most hits of any team in the league in the first half of the season with 232. The Jackrabbits are second in the league in home runs and lead the league in attendance.
