Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight announced that David Tharp, a Development Specialist/Manager for the City of Kokomo, will replace current Deputy Mayor Randy McKay, who announced his retirement earlier this month.
“Randy has been a tremendous asset for the City,” said Mayor Goodnight. “It is vital to find someone who has a passion for local government and a drive to succeed like Randy has as Deputy Mayor. David is the right person who will step in and work hard to advance our mission.”
McKay, who was the city’s first Deputy Mayor and former Director of Operations, will officially retire Friday, June 3. He will remain in his position as President of the Board of Public Works and Safety. Tharp will assume the duties as Deputy Mayor on June 4.
“Randy and I have worked side-by-side for years,” said Tharp. “I can’t imagine any way I could have better prepared for this than to watch him in action. He really has set the standard for the Deputy Mayor’s position. I appreciate the faith that the Mayor has in me and the support I’ve received and will receive from Randy as we make this transition. I share the Mayor’s passion for making Kokomo a great place to work, live and raise a family. Helping advance that goal will always be my focus.”
