This week, the biggest pop culture convention in north-central Indiana returns, and KOKOMO-CON 2016 is pulling out the stops to bring attendees an outstanding experience on Oct. 15.
“KOKOMO-CON is the convention that brings all the amazing sights and sounds of pop culture, mixes it with community, and produces something entirely new for a family oriented day out in Kokomo,” said organizer Shawn Hilton.
The 7th annual event, locally owned and operated and sponsored by COMICS CUBED, will feature a number of notable names in the comics and animation industry, highlighted by KOKOMO-CON 2016 Guest of Honor Philo Barnhart.
Barnhart is co-creator of Walt Disney’s Ariel and an animator on “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty & the Beast,” and “Winnie the Pooh,” as well as Don Bluth’s “The Secret of Nimh.” Barnhart’s credits also include classic video games, cartoons, animation, and a motion Picture.
He is joined by Kokomo’s Paul Allor, author of the sold-out “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe,“ as well as “G.I. Joe,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Nova,” and his creator-owned “Tet.” Other comics creators at KOKOMO-CON 2016 include Andy Bennet, Dan Dougherty, Paul McCall, Rafael Nieves, Stuart Sayger, Gavin Smith, and many more. All will be on hand to sign, sketch, and sell prints of their work.
The KOKOMO-CON Charity Auction to benefit the Kokomo Humane Society includes autographed pieces from some of the most sought-after celebrities in the world of pop culture.
And the KOKOMO-CON costume contest, held on the main stage of the convention, will feature a children’s category (12 and under), an men’s category, a women’s category, and a group category. With cash and prizes of over $500 dollars, it’s one of the most exciting and entertaining costume contests in the Midwest.
Dealers of comics, toys, games, steam punk, authors, and more will be on hand to sate the fans’ thirst for new and interesting items from the realms of fantasy, sci-fi, anime, super heroes, and of course with it being so close to Halloween, horror related items. A number of community-related booths also will be featured.
KOKOMO-CON 2016 takes place on Sat., Oct. 15, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center, 1500 N Reed Rd, Kokomo. Admission to the KOKOMO-Con is required in order to attend the auction, but there is no additional charge for participation, nor is there a buyer’s premium.
