The Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy is now accepting applications for its upcoming class. Members of the public who are interested in attending the 7-week session may obtain an application at the Kokomo Police Department, 100 S. Union Street, front lobby display area, or download application. There is also a link on the KPD Facebook page. All applications are to be returned to the Kokomo Police Department by February 16, 2018. Applicants who meet the requirements will receive an acceptance letter.
The purpose of the Citizens’ Police Academy is to increase the public’s understanding of law enforcement duties and responsibilities. There is no charge for the classes which are designed to give citizens information relating to the training police officers are provided. The seven sessions are held once per week on Wednesdays. The classes are at the City Building Council Chambers, 100 S. Union St., from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The first class will start on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. The class will not meet March 28, 2018, and graduation is scheduled for April 25, 2018.
The Citizens’ Police Academy will accept 25 applicants. Applicants must be 18-years-old with no felony record or criminal arrests within a three-year period of the March 7, 2018 start date. Applicants are subject to a background check.
Applicants must attend 6 out of 7 sessions to graduate. Those who graduate will receive a certificate and become eligible to become a member of the Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association.
