Gingerbread House Moves into Historic Depot District

Kokomo’s popular Gingerbread House Bakery has opened in a new, bigger storefront at 505 N. Buckeye St. in Kokomo’s Historic Depot District. The bakery is next door to Gabetta’s Restaurant which opened in September.

The bakery features an array of pastry items, doughnuts and specialty desserts. Owners Matt and Lauren Gaines chose the location for the extra space, the area’s rising profile and increased pedestrian traffic.

“We are incredibly excited about this new phase of growth for our business, and we just needed more space,” said Matt Gaines. “We are now centrally located, and the new developments like the Industrial Heritage Trail, new apartments and restaurants are a perfect complement to the Gingerbread House.”

In addition to a larger seating capacity, the Gingerbread House Bakery now features a bigger kitchen enabling it to expand its product line and serve more customers.

“It is great to see family-owned businesses prosper and expand,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “The opening of Gabetta’s and the Gingerbread House Bakery are just the beginning of what will be a thriving restaurant and retail district led by private investments.”

The bakery opened in 2009 and was famously visited in November, 2010 by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden who bought some treats during their visit to Kokomo.
In addition to doughnuts, the Gingerbread House Bakery creates cakes for all occasions, cookies, cupcakes and candies. The bakery is open Monday – Thursday 5:30 a.m. to 2:00p.m.; Friday 5:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Sunday 5:30 a.m. to noon.
