City of Kokomo Announces Public Meetings for 2015 Community Development Block Grant Annual Action Plan and 2015-2019 Consolidated Action Plan

The City of Kokomo Department of Development will hold two public hearings and one additional public meeting for determining funding allocations for the 2015 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Action Plan and 2015-2019 Consolidated Action Plan. The City prepares the Consolidated Action Plan every five years to determine community needs and priorities for the allocation of future CDBG funding. The purpose of this meeting is to explain the process of the Consolidated Action Plan and Annual Action Plan to interested persons, agencies, service providers and citizens and seek their input in formulating these plans.

The City of Kokomo has estimated that it will receive for 2015, an amount that is approximately equal to or less than the level of funding it received last year, $738,630.  The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has not yet released the final approved grant amount for the coming fiscal year.

Meeting Times / Locations: 

  • Public      Hearing #1, to inform the public of past projects and eligible activities      and to solicit public input, will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2015 – 6      p.m., City Hall Council Chambers.
  • The      Citizens Review Committee meeting, open to the public, will be held Wednesday,      March 11, 2015 – 5 p.m., City Hall, Louks Conference Room
  • Public Hearing      #2, to announce the 2015 proposed activities and solicit public input, will      be held Wednesday, March 25, 2015 – 9 a.m., City Hall Council Chambers 

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) federally administers the CDBG program.  Kokomo annually receives funds from the program with the requirement to use the money primarily for the benefit of low- and moderate-income families and neighborhoods.  Infrastructure projects, exterior housing improvements, handicap accessibility and slum and blight removal are some of the ways that CDBG funding has typically been used to improve the quality of life for Kokomo’s citizens.  All applications for funding must be in the Department of Development, Third Floor of City Hall, 100 S. Union Street, Kokomo, IN 46901, no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Eligibility guidelines and application forms are available on the Development Department page.
