Kokomo is ranked as one of the five best Indiana cities for young families. San Francisco-based Apartment List Rentonomics recently examined Indiana cities and ranked the top fifteen. Their analysis was centered on four factors identified as most important to young families: Safety, Housing Cost, School Quality and Child Friendliness.
Kokomo scored high in most categories and the study positively cited the quality of Kokomo’s schools, public safety and affordable housing.
“Cities must be creative, make wise investments and not be afraid to try new things to develop their urban environment into appealing, family-friendly cities,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “We are reshaping Kokomo with a powerful approach intended to address the urban challenges all cities face. We are just beginning to see the results. Kokomo has gone from a rust-belt city to a top-five city for families.”
With its economy bouncing back on the heels of new investments by its largest employers, led by Chrysler’s nearly $2 billion in new manufacturing equipment, Kokomo’s population is growing.
For its part the City of Kokomo has kept pace by making family-friendly, quality of place investments such as connecting the city’s Industrial Heritage Trail to the Nickel Plate Trail; making capital improvements throughout the city’s 450- acre network of public parks and for new attractions to Kokomo Beach, one of north central Indiana’s largest public aquatic parks.
