Mayor's Mental Health & Wellness Committee Donates $4K to Project Access

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight’s Mental Health & Wellness Committee presented a $4,000 check to Project Access’ Executive Director Sherry Rahl during a special ceremony at Kokomo’s City Hall.

Last fall the mayor’s committee sponsored a “Mask”erade Halloween Party hosted by legendary television horror film host, Sammy Terry. The popular event was a fundraiser with proceeds to benefit Project Access.

“Serving the most vulnerable in our community is of utmost importance,” said Mayor Goodnight.  “Project Access coordinates with medical professionals to provide treatment solutions for people with mental illness and/or those who cannot afford medical services or medications.”

The committee is comprised of Kathy Horton, City of Kokomo Director of Human Resources, Kokomo Housing Authority representatives, the Mental Health Association of Howard County, the Kokomo Rescue Mission, the police and fire departments, the National Alliance on Mental Health of Kokomo, St. Joseph Hospital, Community Howard Regional Health and the Gilead House. They advise Mayor Goodnight’s administration on mental health and wellness issues affecting the City of Kokomo.

Project Access is a service program of the Howard County Medical Society and a United Way agency. Through Project Access, physicians, dentists and other healthcare providers volunteer their services. Qualified, uninsured residents of Howard County may receive comprehensive medical care through Project Access at little or no cost.
