Kokomo's Annual Leaf Pick-up Begins Oct. 16
The City of Kokomo will begin its annual fall leaf pick-up on Monday, October 16. Leaf collection will start on the City’s south side and progress north. Crews will make continuous passes with a leaf vacuum truck until all leaves are gathered or when weather no longer permits leaf pick-up.
City crews plan to make collections from each resident about four times during the leaf pick-up season.
When the crews are gathering leaves with a leaf vacuum truck, tree limb pick-up will be temporarily suspended. Tree limbs will be collected at a later date.
To make the collection more efficient the Department of Public Maintenance and Refuse provides the following recommendations:
- Rake leaves to the curb but not into the street.Leaves in the street can obstruct street drain inlets and cause flooding. Please do not place leaf piles on sidewalks, gutters, ditches or around fire hydrants.
- Do not mix limbs or other yard waste with loose leaves. The leaf vacuum cannot pick-up limbs or garden waste.
- Place only loose leaves at the curbside (no bagged leaves).
- Burning leaves is a violation of City code and not permitted in the city limits.
